Today’s verse says: “And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7). We all thank the Lord for the breath of life He has given us this morning, for we are living souls. My brother, my sister, what is the greatest thing God could offer you today to make you happier in this life?
If this was to be a census, surely, material things will take precedence over spiritual things because a great majority of believers worry more about their well-being on earth than the things of God. So sad, but it is the truth: unforeseen and unwanted circumstances weigh more than faith in God’s great capacity in the lives of many. But today, let’s focus on the most important thing we all should thank God for on a daily basis: the breath of life.
My friend, realise today that if you are still counted among the living, it is by the grace of God alone. So, why would your day be more focused on things that don’t hold your life then, rather than on the Lord? You see, someone somewhere set more than one alarm clock to get up this morning. May be the alarm rang and they did not hear it and could not get up on time; maybe they heard the alarm but their body was too weak to allow them to get up; maybe the alarm rang but they could not hear it anymore because the Lord took back the breath of life during the night. My friend, who wakes you up in the morning? Your spouse, your children, your alarm clock or the Spirit of the Lord who dwells in you?
The Bible says “we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps” (Proverbs 16:9). Yes, if you woke up this morning thinking someone made plans for this day, but is no longer counted among the living to carry them through, it will certainly make you more appreciative of whatever God will allow you to do during the day, including things that can give you the impression of not having accomplished anything. My friend, setting our eyes on the Lord Jesus will make us more than conquerors always. Why? Because He fights out battles, seen and unseen, and He sustains us through every event of our lives. The Bible says, God renews His mercies every morning. If you knew what the devil had planned for your destruction for this day, you would not complain about anything, but instead the breath of life you have enjoyed would be enough to bring joy and praises to your heart as you recall the devil that He does not have the last word over your life, and that God loves you enough to give you that grace for you to become a bit more like Christ every day. Therefore, “do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6). Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
