Today’s passage says this: “About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners”
WHAT WAS PETER DOING WHEN HE SAW HEAVEN OPENED?
My brother, my sister, Peter was Praying. Yes, the presence of God came upon him in such a mighty way that he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened. Nowadays, people say they can hear from God, they can see the Lord. Yet, it is impossible to see or hear from the Lord and remain the same. Where is the manifestation of what you have seen from God? Where is the manifestation of what you have heard from God? My friend, our Lord is not a barren God: when He manifested His presence, change follows in your life!
And the fact is, the Bible clearly tells us what Peter was doing. Let’s look at it closely: it was noon time. Peter could have been in a million different places, but he chose to go to the roof of the house to pray. The Bible is speaking about “physical hunger”, but surely Peter was hungry spiritually, or he would not have been praying on the roof in the first place. MY FRIEND, WHEN YOU ARE PHYSICALLY HUNGRY YOU LOOK FOR YOUR KITCHEN FIRST, NOT AN ISOLATED PLACE TO PRAY, ISN’T IT? Yet, this experience would not have been possible for Peter without praying. Yes, Peter used his key to contact Heaven, just like Jesus after His baptism: “When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son,whom I love; with you I am well pleased “(Luke 3: 21-22). What is amazing these days is that ‘Heaven opens’ for many to slander, denounce or accuse others… Yet each time the Heaven opened in the Word of God, the person who saw it was transformed!
My friend, all things are certainly possible with God, but we must understand that hearing or seeing anything from God must change your life, because the same Spirit who works in you also operates in those who believe in Jesus: He will not open your eyes to see or your ears to hear what the Lord has to say to your neighbor while you yourself are still heavily blind or deaf. You see, Peter first positioned himself in the right place at the right time in order to see heaven open, which should teach us that God does not speak anyhow, God does not easily reveal Himself as easily as we hear people say today. He reveals Himself to whoever sincerely seeks Him. Moreover, He cannot lead anyone to mistakes… only Satan can. God cannot show anyone something that is not aligned with His Word… only Satan can. Therefore, beware not to be more in communication with Satan than you are with the Lord… Many believers are making God a gossiper these days and the reason is simple: God gave us a key that has the power and the potential to open the heavenly places BUT they do not use it as much as they should, so the devil helps deceiving them. The result is that, without knowing it, they become spiritual wanderers. But Jesus gave us free access to the Father… individual access! My friend, you cannot seek from God what will accuse your brother… if you do, you are the devil’s pet for he is the accuser of the brethrens (Apocalypse 12:9-11). Instead, seek that Heaven be open above your head so that your character changes, so that you have a better relationship with God and that your life may be transformed.
My friend, allow this meditation to help you understand that regular and persevering prayer, as well as a diligent obedience (Deuteronomy 28:1-13)and sacrificial giving (Acts 10:1-34) are the keys we have at our disposal to open heaven! Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
