Many believers continue to live as if they are still in darkness, while the Holy Spirit of the Lord Jesus dwells within them. My, brother, my sister, listen to what Jesus is telling you today in today’s verse: “No one lights a lamp and puts it in a place where it will be hidden, or under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are healthy, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are unhealthy, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.” The truth is that the lamp is Christ! The eye here is your spiritual understanding and insight. Now, my friend, know that when you are still dominated by the desires of the flesh, that makes your eyes less sensitive and blots out the light’s of Christ’s presence in your life. In other words, if you have trouble seeing the Lord at work in the world or in your life, then check your own vision. What do you see? What does your eye show you? Are you more inclined to notice the bad things people do than the goodness in them? Are you quicker to jump into sin rather than stopping yourself from sinning because you have the fear of the Lord? The same, if you feel there is a distance between the Lord and you, check that any sinful desire is not blinding you so much that you cannot set your eyes on Christ, for He is your lamp. The lamp brings clarity where there is darkness. It is only when the lamp is off that it cannot show its light. So it’s simple: either the light is on in your life and mind (in other words Christ lives in you as Apostle Paul said in Galatians 2:20) or it is turned off! What you are going through right now or how you feel inside of you should help you know where you stand… With Christ as your light, how can things such as depression, fear, discouragement, disobedience to God, rebellion or criticism of others may remain in you? If they are temporary, ok… But when such things are installed or keep coming back, then ask yourself this question seriously today: “Is the Lord Jesus really my lamp?” Yes, my friend, the Bible says that if these things are still there, then your eye is unhealthy and this makes your whole body to be full of darkness (verse 34). However, when your eye is healthy, the light must shine in you and not only people will see it, but it it will also produce light to those who are still in the darkness. Why? Because the Lord has “put it on its stand, so that those who come in may see the light” (verse 33). Stay blessed in Jesus’ name. [facebook] [retweet]
