“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him, but with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of Nineveh; he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness. Whatever they plot against the Lord he will bring to an end; trouble will not come a second time.”
Many people speak of love without knowing what love is. The world has vilified love because Love is from God. Today we see victims everywhere of love who believed without seeing their partner was there only to serve its own interests. Is that love? God is love… unconditional love. And the fact is, because the concept of love has been so much minimised by the world, even believers do no longer have the fear of the Lord, which is an expression of love and trust in Him… Today many believers easily say that they love God, but their actions say otherwise: love inspires the respect of each other; love inspires confidence in the other. How can you love God without following His Word? That is the reason why many people would rather try to help God by forcing things into their lives, rather than doing what He is asking us to do while waiting for Him to act.
Today’s passage tell us that the Lord is good and a strong refuge we can rest on when trouble comes. My friend, we are living in a world of troubles… Make the Lord your refuge, bearing in mind that He rules over all the earth, even over those who don’t acknowledged Him. God is all-powerful, and nobody can thwart His plans. It is such a shame that, some believers are even envious of the success of evil people: they would tell you they don’t understand that some celebrities who do not have the Lord prosper; drug dealers seem to live happy lives, etc… My friend, the Lord will overcome anyone who attempts to defy Him… on His own time! All He is asking each of us is to set our eyes on things above, where He is and to place our confidence in Him because He alone rules all of history, all the earth and our individual lives. Yes, to those who refuse to believe in Him, God’s punishment is like an angry fire… it’s not because you don’t see what is invisible that evildoers will remain unpunished…
To those who love and trust in Him, His mercy is a refuge and He supplies all their needs without diminishing His supply. My friend, the relationship we have with God is up to us: the more we trust Him, the closer He is to us. Let’s stop saying we believe in God only, we must also show that we trust in Him by living a righteous life because that life is accompanied by a promise of God: “The fruit of that righteousness will be peace; its effect will be quietness and confidence forever. My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest” (Isaiah 32:17-18). In the midst of the distress of this world, we need His peace, because we cannot be instruments of peace if we ourselves are in trouble, far from the Lord. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
