One thing that should struck us when we read this passage is the very first verse: “Again the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord, and because they did this evil the Lord gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel” (verse 12). My brother, my sister, even after you gave your life to Christ, spiritual disorder can continue in your life. Spiritual disorder is something out of order in someone’s spiritual realm… and that something causes never-ending problems, the same kind of difficulties, in short chaos or emptiness in their lives.
But also, there is something very important to note today that causes many of us not to live the life we should. Yes, many Christians believe that because of the grace we have enjoyed in Christ evil and sin have no consequences in our lives! You see, anyone who claim to be a believer and continuously does evil or sin shows signs of spiritual disorder, for the Bible is clear: “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires” (Romans 8:5). Now, knowing that God is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, what we learn from this passage is that ONCE AGAIN, the people of Israel did evil and God gave power to their enemy over them. Many of us find ourselves in this situation or sometimes in worse situations, but because it is easier to look for external sources to our problems, we end up turning round or seeing our lives not moving forward sometimes, while we should look for the root of the problem within us first!
My friend, if you have been crying out for God’s help in some areas of your life and you have not seen His answer, let me tell you the Good News today: Jesus has won the victory for you on the Cross. Yet, as we read Judges, we see that the people are crying out of their pain because of the difficult circumstances they are going through, just like you today… But they are not crying out of sorrow for their sins! My friend, God wants to hear your cries, but if your cries do not reach Him, today ask yourself two major questions: ‘why can’t you hear me Lord? Why am I crying in fact?’. Know that someone else’s sin will never make you be far from the presence of God…! And let me also tell you that even if the sorcerer of your village was able to touch you in the spiritual real to set disorder in your life, check yourself and you might find out that you yourself have open the door for them to enter (even just by fearing their actions instead of trusting in the Lord!).
My friend, We have the assurance that with God, nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37). Know that, if you are crying day and night for things that seem impossible to you, because you are turning round without moving forward, may be it is time for you to stop and cry out to God because you are truly sorry for your sins… And I know that “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (Romans 8:31). Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
