Today’s Christianity is so full of people who think they know the Word of God so much that everyone wants to become the master of the Word. Therefore, you see people leaving churches or abandoning fellow-believers based on THEIR OWN knowledge of the Word or with the claim that they cannot feel the presence of God anymore. My brother, my sister, if you are leaving or have left a community of Christian brothers on such grounds, then you should check yourself first. You see, the Lord says “I will never leave you, I will never forsake you”. And the same God said that “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20). Yes, it is possible to be forsaken and yet not be left. It is possible to be left but not be forsaken. But it is also possible to be left and forsaken. That’s what we see in the world every day, and even worse within the Body of Christ. But our Lord declares he will NEVER leave, nor FORSAKE us! My friends, there are at least two ways we can leave Christ (notice that I did not say ‘abandon Christ’): physically like Mary who let him in the temple (Luke 2:41-52), or spiritually by turning away from the Truth of the Word to follow the truth of the world, yet the Bible says “the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him” (John 14:17). In both situations, we have the assurance that, because the Lord made the promise to always be there with us (Matthew 28:20), we will always find Him where we left Him while we think He is gone, because he never leaves, we are the ones who leave and forsake Him. And, just like Mary who realised she had left Jesus in the temple, all we need to do is to go back where we left Him. The amazing part of this story is that, when Mary went back to look for Jesus, she found Him in the midst of the scribes and learned men, asking and answering their questions. This should teach us that, whenever we drift away from the place we left the Lord, those who remain in that place continue to learn and receive from Him, and we are the one losing out and wasting our time looking for the One who is in us elsewhere… Let’s learn to be faithful my friends. Yes, if you cannot be faithful to a man whom you see, how can you be to the Lord that you do not see (man is made in the image of God!). That’s why Jesus said “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15). What are Jesus’ commandments? To love Jesus and one another as Jesus loved you. My friends, let’s learn to be tolerant with our fellow-believers and seek God where we are, because He does not travel with you from one church to another church; He is in you… So find Him where you are, find Him where you left or abandoned Him. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
