Most of the time, we hear preachers preach about patience. Today, let’s tackle the issue of impatience, because it is a bad root that can not only damage our lives, but also divert us from the initial plan of God for our lives. Most of the time, when everything is going our way, we can easily demonstrate patience and when our rights are violated, then comes the true test of patience. However, the Bible praises patience as a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22) which should be produced for all followers of Christ (1 Thessalonians 5:14). So, my brother, my sister, how do you deal with your impatience? You see, patience reveals your faith in God’s timing, omnipotence and love. Therefore, your impatience just shows that you still don’t trust God’s timing, omnipotence and love…. Besides, learn that at the root of your impatience can arrogance or pride be hidden! Dealing with impatience can be a long process and you don’t become patient overnight. God’s power and goodness are crucial to the development of patience. The Bible says we need “great endurance and patience” (Colossians 1:11) and we are encouraged to know that trials can be His way of perfecting our patience (James 1:3-4). Yes, our patience is developed and strengthened by your resting in God’s perfect will and timing, even in the face of evil men who “succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes” (Psalm 37:7). And our patience will be rewarded in the end “because the Lord’s coming is near” (James 5:7-8). Now, how do you deal with impatience? The first thing to do is to stop trying to preach the Gospel to others, but to preach it to yourself, reminding yourself every day, as Paul did with Timothy, that in saving you God exercised His patience towards you (1 Timothy 1:16). Besides, if you truly believe that God is the Ruler of the universe, and despite that He exercised patience towards you while you were still rebelling against Him, then you can exercise patience towards yourself or someone who is not doing things the way you want.. So, the circumstances that occur in your life are sovereignly controlled by Him and could be used by Him to teach you something about yourself in order for you to grow spiritually… and this includes even things that might give you opportunity to become impatient.
