In the Bible, the only times we see the wrath of God in action against His people, is only when He decided to punish those who offended or rejected Him. In Deuteronomy, God is speaking of the stiff-necked, rebellious, idolatrous Israelites who rejected Him and decided His wrath will fall on them because of their wickedness. This is the time He promised to avenge Himself upon them in His own timing and according to His own PERFECT and PURE MOTIVES. My brother, my sister, when we are unfairly wronged, it can be very tempting to try and take on the role of God and seek to punish those who are responsible for it, because we believe they deserve it. But, what we always forget at such times is that, because of our sinful nature, it is impossible for us to take revenge with PURE MOTIVES. That is why the Bible says: “Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:18). Sure, it is not easy to let go, but as Children of God, we should learn, like David, the man after God’s heart, to submit to the Lord’s commands and to to forego vengeance and trust in Him when we are wronged and leave it into His mighty hands saying :”May the Lord judge between you and me. And may the Lord avenge the wrongs you have done to me, but my hand will not touch you” (1 Samuel 24:12). My friend, you should also never forget that the Lord Jesus even commanded you to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Whatever happens, you have the confidence that He will strengthen you in your fight against evil and evildoers, for you have the victory in Jesus already. Stay blessed in Jesus’ name.
